Course Description

Foreign Languages for Engineering. Academic Writing” is a concise but comprehensive course on how to:

  • represent yourself and communicate in the modern real and virtual world;
  • feel safety at modern enterprises;
  • equip modern engineers, teachers in engineering, PhD students with practical skills of   working with/reading drawings and dimensions in English;
  • read mathematical formulae and equations;
  • write original research papers for publication in English according to IMRaD format;
  •  gain a better understanding of background knowledge of English;
  • improve translating skills by studying theoretical and practical tips;
  • make scientific presentations etc.

In the course you will explore the modern system of engineering, expand your professional vocabulary and master language skills needed to present yourself, share professional and academic information within your scientific community.

English is considered as a means of forming professional engineering competence.

The course consists of 5 Modules that are mainly connected with ‘soft skills’ of engineering activities:

Course Objectives

Everyone will learn something from experience and different levels of learners are encouraged in this course so that we all learn from each other. The course approaches different language variants (British and American), structure, style, and content issues that you can encounter while reporting the results of your professional activities and research.

At the end of the course, you will be a more confident, efficient writer, able to create higher quality scientific articles and documents more quickly, build your communicative capacity, enhance your reading and listening skills in the field of engineering. The course will contribute to your preparation for international exams as it develops all activities (Reading, Speaking, Writing, Listening) that are of key priority for these exams.

The course is designed to be beneficial to all stakeholders, who want to sound professionally and convincingly in the Engineering World of XXI century.
